Job Description: Technical Architect¶
Department: Technology & Digital — Platform Engineering
Reports to: Head of Solution Architecture
Role Overview¶
Simpaisa's payment platform runs on cloud infrastructure across multiple markets. The Technical Architect designs that infrastructure — networking, compute, managed services, data residency controls, IaC, and the operational architecture that makes the platform deployable, observable, and scalable.
This is an infrastructure architecture role, distinct from the Solution Architect (who designs payment solutions) and the Platform Owner (who manages the platform backlog). The Technical Architect is responsible for the underlying technical blueprint: how Simpaisa's infrastructure is structured, how workloads are isolated per market, how deployments are automated, and how the infrastructure meets DFSA, SBP, and other regulatory requirements for data residency and security.
Key Responsibilities¶
-
Design and own Simpaisa's cloud infrastructure architecture — multi-region topology, network segmentation, compute and managed service selection, storage, and database infrastructure.
-
Define Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards and patterns — Terraform or equivalent. Ensure all infrastructure is version-controlled and reproducible.
-
Design data residency architecture: ensure transaction data for each market is stored and processed within the regulatory requirements of that jurisdiction (DFSA, SBP, Bangladesh Bank, NRB).
-
Design the platform's CI/CD and deployment infrastructure: pipeline architecture, environment promotion strategy (dev → staging → canary → production), and secrets management.
-
Work with Security Architect to ensure infrastructure designs incorporate appropriate controls — WAF, DDoS protection, network policies, encryption at rest and in transit, IAM.
-
Conduct capacity planning and performance architecture reviews — ensure the infrastructure can handle peak payment volumes (Eid, end of month settlement runs, etc.).
-
Evaluate and recommend infrastructure tooling and managed services; contribute to the Technology Radar for infrastructure decisions.
-
Produce infrastructure architecture documentation (C4 model, network diagrams, deployment diagrams) — clear enough that Reliability Engineers can operate from them.
-
Support Technical Engineers in implementing and maintaining the infrastructure to the approved design.
Required Skills and Experience¶
-
Cloud architecture: Deep expertise in AWS or Azure infrastructure design. Proficiency in designing multi-region, highly available architectures. Understanding of cloud-native services (managed databases, queues, caches, load balancers, CDNs).
-
IaC: Hands-on experience with Terraform (preferred) or equivalent. Infrastructure that is not code is not managed infrastructure.
-
Networking: Strong understanding of VPC design, subnetting, security groups, private endpoints, VPNs, and DNS in cloud environments. Cross-border connectivity patterns for multi-market operations.
-
Data residency: Experience designing architectures that meet jurisdictional data residency requirements. This is not optional in a 7-market regulated payment business.
-
Security: Ability to design infrastructure with security controls built in — not patched on. Experience with IAM design, secret management, encryption standards.
-
Containers and orchestration: Kubernetes or ECS — experience designing container platforms that squads can deploy to predictably.
-
Observability: Experience designing infrastructure observability — log aggregation, metrics collection, distributed tracing at the infrastructure layer.
-
Communication: Ability to explain infrastructure architecture decisions to Solution Architects and Product teams who care about what the infrastructure does for them, not how it works.
General Requirements¶
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
-
8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud architecture, with at least 3 years in an architecture role.
-
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing cloud infrastructure for regulated, multi-region production systems.
-
Relevant cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are valued.
What We Offer¶
-
Competitive salary benchmarked to Dubai market rates.
-
Infrastructure architecture with genuine regulatory complexity — DFSA, SBP, Bangladesh Bank data residency all in one platform.
-
Direct collaboration with the Security Architect and Solution Architects — this role is not in a silo.
-
Visa sponsorship available for the right candidate.
