Job Description: Technical Engineer

Department: Technology & Digital — Platform Engineering
Reports to: Technical Architect / Head of Platform Engineering

Role Overview

Simpaisa's payment platform is cloud-hosted infrastructure that must run 24/7 across 7 markets. The Technical Engineer implements, maintains, and operates that infrastructure — provisioning cloud resources, managing Kubernetes clusters, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and responding to infrastructure-level incidents.

This is a hands-on infrastructure role within the Platform Engineering team. Where the Technical Architect designs the infrastructure blueprint, the Technical Engineer builds and runs it. You are the person who applies the Terraform, manages the certificates, patches the nodes, and investigates why a deployment is hanging in staging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provision and maintain cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure) using Infrastructure as Code — Terraform or equivalent. No clickops.

  • Manage Kubernetes clusters: deployments, resource configuration, autoscaling, and incident response for platform workloads.

  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines: build reliability, deployment speed, test integration, and secrets handling.

  • Perform system patching, dependency upgrades, and maintenance tasks on schedule — before vulnerabilities become incidents.

  • Implement and maintain security controls at the infrastructure layer: network policies, IAM roles, secrets management (HashiCorp Vault or cloud-native), TLS certificate management.

  • Monitor infrastructure health using Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, or equivalent — identify degradation before squads notice it.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation for platform-level infrastructure incidents.

  • Contribute to runbook development: document how to perform common infrastructure tasks and how to respond to known failure modes.

  • Work with Solution Engineers during SDLC Phase 7 to support new service deployments — validate resource requirements, configure monitoring, confirm rollback procedures.

  • Support data residency compliance: ensure infrastructure configuration aligns with DFSA, SBP, and Bangladesh Bank requirements for data jurisdiction.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Cloud platforms: Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure in a production environment. Comfortable provisioning and managing cloud resources at scale.

  • Kubernetes: Practical experience running and maintaining Kubernetes clusters — not just deploying to one. Helm, namespaces, resource quotas, PodDisruptionBudgets.

  • IaC: Terraform (preferred) or equivalent. Infrastructure that is not codified is a liability.

  • CI/CD: Experience maintaining pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent). Understanding of deployment strategies (canary, blue/green).

  • Linux: Comfortable on the command line. Ability to diagnose infrastructure and application issues from logs, metrics, and process inspection.

  • Scripting: Python or Bash for automation — infrastructure tasks that are done more than twice should be scripted.

  • Security basics: Understanding of IAM, network policies, secret rotation, and encryption in transit/at rest. Knows not to put credentials in code.

  • On-call readiness: Comfortable with on-call rotation and structured incident response. Has used PagerDuty or similar.

General Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or cloud operations.

  • Demonstrated experience managing production cloud infrastructure.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary benchmarked to your local market.

  • On-call compensation in addition to base salary.

  • Infrastructure work at meaningful scale — multi-region, multi-market, 24/7 payment systems.

  • Clear career path: Technical Engineer → Senior TE → Technical Architect.

  • Hybrid working (on-call schedule respected).
